The Soccer Unity Project is always looking for exciting ways to come alongside today's youth and their families to help them grow as both budding athletes but also (and arguably more importantly) members of society who give back! In an effort to encourage and celebrate kids who go above and beyond in areas of community service, sportsmanship and leadership we will be rolling out a new initiative called SUP Player of the Week!
For our first week of this, we are honoring Kanan Webb from Coastal Academy (4th Grade).
In the very first practices of the new year, Kanan stepped up to the challenge of being a leader for his peers. Kanan accomplished this by helping several of the younger kids who are newer to the game of soccer. This helped the newer children feel more comfortable with their new surroundings on the soccer field and feel more confident with their new teammates. Kanan's coach at Coastal Academy, Brian Havenner, said "I can give words of affirmation all practice long. Seeing Kanan encouraging and giving pointers to the younger kids adds a level that as a coach I can't get to on my own." We asked Kanan to answer a few questions, so take some time to celebrate Kanan this week! We always need more kids to exemplify the SUP values!
